Kirby is the co-author and editor of the lifestyle blog Short & Sweet, but clocks in long hours working in PR. She lives in San Diego with her boxer puppy and her East Coast transplant fiancé.
What Clare Vivier bag is currently in your wardrobe rotation? Foldover Clutch in Royal Blue, with my soon-to-be new monogram (I’m getting married next month). I wear a lot of neutrals and rely on bright accents to keep things interesting.
What’s inside? Tortoise shell sunglasses from Target. I always get compliments and they were under $10! Bobbi Brown lip gloss in Cabana Coral. It actually goes on sheer despite how bright it looks in the tube, and is the perfect topper for pink or nude lips. Essie polish in Absolutely Shore, the color currently on my fingers. I’m a perfectionist so I like to be able to touch up my nails if they chip! L’Occitane hand cream. It smells so good that it doubles as perfume when I’m in a pinch. iPhone 4 (I know, I’m due for an upgrade) with a colorful case from a cool Brooklyn-based company caseable.
What is your favorite thing about your job? There’s never a dull moment. I do PR for a recently-relaunched music-focused social media platform, so the industry is always changing.
Where is your favorite place in San Diego to grab a drink/bite?I just tried Sea & Smoke with a friend and have already been back twice, so that’s a new favorite.
What are your top three favorite stores in San Diego to shop? Capricorn Boutique in La Jolla. Most of my favorite items in my closet have come from Capricorn. It’s so well curated and the owners carry brands you won’t find anywhere else in San Diego. Zara just opened in San Diego, which is really exciting. I love their shoes and just picked up an emerald green pair of heels that I adore. Anthropologie is a favorite for browsing for inspiration, even if I don’t buy anything. It’s also one of my go-to stores for gifts.
If you could hop on a plane tomorrow and go anywhere, where would you go? Argentina has been on my list for awhile, but we visited Australia earlier this year and I’m already itching to go back.
If you could tell your 22-year-old self one thing what would it be? Just go with it. I’m such a planner by nature that I am usually thrown off when things don’t go as planned, but whenever I just take a leap of faith it usually pays off.
What is your ultimate guilty pleasure? Fashion magazines. I subscribe to all every fashion mag out there (note: true fashion magazines, not tabloids!) and get a little thrill when they arrive each month. The September issues have started to arrive which is the best!
What book or television show are you currently addicted to? We’re working our way through the new season of Arrested Development. So happy it’s back! As far as books, I’ve been studying up on good old-fashioned tour guides for our Italian honeymoon and just finished Laura Moriarty’s The Chaperone.
What do you do to unwind when you are not working? We live near the beach, so I try to make sure I see the ocean every day, whether it’s walking the dog on the sand or reading while my fiancé surfs.
What song is currently your jam? Chiddy Bang’s Ray Charles is the first song on my running playlist.
What is one blog you can’t stop reading?
Lark + Linen
. Jacquelyn has become a “blogging friend” and her blog is one that I read every morning with my coffee.
Sweet or savory? Savory. I can never say no to a good cheese plate. Although the sweet and savory combination is the best (like honeycomb or figs on said cheese plate!).
